Gold Brass
What percent Copper and Zinc is gold brass? And is it percent by weight or volume?
I was asked to make “Gold Brass” which is a higher % copper than yellow brass which Ive made before, but im not sure what percent or if its by weight or volume.
Gold brass is about 86-90% copper, the rest zinc. I use to have the exact proportions but I can’t find them. For several years I played a fine Gold Brass french horn. It had a really nice sound but would dent like crazy from having so much copper in it. Gold brass doesn’t really look that different than normal brass, most gold brass instruments are sprayed with a little gold or red in the lacquer to give them a golden look.
