Cats Eye
What would cause this problem in my cats eye?
My elderly female cat (indoor) keeps having trouble with one eye. The eye starts out “teary” or runny, and then keeps progressing to where it’s almost closed after a few days. The vet just keeps sticking her on an antibiotic, and never diagnoses it. What could cause this? Any natural treatments other than the antibiotic ointment?
You may want to ask your vet to test your cat for Feline Herpes. IOne of the ways that this virus shows itself is by causing kitties to have teary/weepy eyes and they can swell up and close.
I have read that many cats have the virus and never show signs of it, until their immune systems become weaker. As your kitty is getting older, her immune system may have allow this virus to flare up.
As Feline Herpes is not an infection but instead a virus, you can do things to help her eyes feel better, however the symptoms will keep returning.
