Golden Chinese

golden chinese algae eater?
I bought a golden chinese algae eater 5 years ago and was wondering how long they live… some places say they live 5, others say 15.
i currently keep mine in a 20 gallon. he’s about 4 inches now and attacks certain fish species, but he does eat algae and is very pretty so i like keeping him.
yes i know how large and aggressive they get…
They get pretty big and do become aggressive as they get older. If there are any large fish with flat surfaces the algae eater will eat the slime coating off the other fish. Their productivity as algae eaters are not as good as other species. I have had mine for about 5 years and it’s about the same size as yours. I know somebody who keep them in their ponds when warm enough and they told me mine is still small. They are pretty long lived but I don’t have any numbers. All I can say is they live longer than 5 years, probably a lot longer.
