Greeks – Fundamental Indian Astrology
Greek astrology is usually, and more properly, known as Hellenistic astrology. It actually originated in Egypt at some point after the conquest by Alexander the Great and the beginning of the Christian era. Hellenistic astrology also comprises Byzantine and Roman Indian astrology. It’s therefore much more a reference to the typical geographic area and an era in history, instead of to one particular modern society or culture.
Although Hellenistic astrology can’t be linked to any one individual or culture, it is the reason behind all modern, or Western astrology. There are numerous documents written in Greek, although some are written in Latin, that are specialized in natal astrology. This is the department of astrology in which concerns the individual. Area of the reason that it’s difficult to be able to source these documents to any one individual or even culture is that they span a period of time of about 400 years.
But that does not mean that important Ancient Greek language philosophers and scientists haven’t been part of the development of Indian astrology. Hippocrates used astrological understanding as part of his medical analytic system. Pythagoras studied inside Egypt, and while nothing in writing exists of Pythagoras” theories, he is credited with stating that the planet earth, Planets and fixed superstars revolved around the sunlight, thousands of years before Galileo! Afterwards though, his principle was refuted by Aristotle who declared that the Earth had been the center around the globe.
Following Alexander’s conquest regarding Mesopotamia, Greek astrology began to take on a more individual approach. The Zodiac and planets getting made to correspond to figures from their mythology; the Stoic philosophers are specifically receptive to Indian astrology. Greek astrology influences the metaphysical zodiac of India. Within approximately 70 BCE, the actual Greeks devised the first private horoscope based on duration of birth and in Thirty BCE, the Emperor Augustus had his / her horoscope charted and translated by Thrasyllus.
